Most venomous animals in the world

The most venomous animals in the world are also the most dangerous. They may not have big sharp claws or razor-sharp teeth but a touch of their skin or a squirt of their venom can kill a creature many times their size.

Some dangerous animals may be big and vicious but these venomous animals are relatively smaller but yet can be very venomous and vicious. Their beautiful appearance and their small size can be very deceptive.

You would think that the most venomous animals on earth are snakes. Contrary to what you believe, the list below will show you that these venomous animals are most unlikely candidates to be the most venomous animals in the world.

1. Most venomous frog : Poison-arrow frog

The most venomous animal and most poisonous frog is the poison arrow frog making this frog the most dangerous animal in the world. Of all the poison arrow frog species, the species Phyllobates terribilis or golden poison arrow frog which is found mostly in western Colombia has the most venomous poison of all. Scientists handling these frogs have to wear very thick gloves to prevent from being affected by the poison which is secreted through the frog’s skin.

2. Most venomous lizard : Gila monster

You would never think of a lizard as being poisonous. It is unusual for lizards to be venomous but the Gila Monster Heloderma suspectum is an exception. It is one of the only two species of lizards that is venomous. The other is its cousin the Mexican Beaded lizard.

The Gila Monster Heloderma suspectum’s venom is as lethal as that of the western diamondback rattlesnake. If bitten by this lizard, immediate medical attention should be given to the victim.

3. Most venomous fish : Stonefish

The stonefish has the largest venom glands of any known fish. Found in the Indo-Pacific waters, the spines when touched can kill a human.

The stonefish has a perfect camouflage blending very well with the corals and its surrounding habitat and thus victims are unaware of its presence. The poison can cause severe pain and paralysis and can cause death if not treated within two to three hours.

4. Most venomous jellyfish : Box jellyfish

The box jellyfish is the most venomous and most dangerous jellyfish found in Australia. Although beautiful, it is very deadly and has caused the death of at least 70 people in the past century.

Even though some of the above animals may look beautiful, they can be deceptively dangerous and venomous and even deadly.
